| 民国时期，司徒雷登因担任驻华大使而一度成为美国在
华利益的代言人。但作为燕京大学的创始人和校长，司徒雷登曾
长期致力于中美文化交流并以兴办教会教育为己任。在融合中
西文化的基础上，他根据中国的实际国情和世界高等教育的发
展趋势，极力倡导燕京大学的中国化、世俗化和世界化改造，不
仅成功铸造了燕京大学的辉煌，使之成为众多教会大学中的翘
楚，而且推动了中国高等教育的现代化转型和中西文化交流。司
徒雷登在燕京大学推行高等教育改革的成功是中西文化融合的
结果，是民国时期中国高等教育发展史的重要组成部分。 |

| During the period of the Republic of China, Leighton Stuart, the ambassador to China, had become a
spokesman for the interests of the United States in China. But as the founder and president of Yenching University,
Leighton Stuart had devoted himself to Sino American cultural exchanges for a long time and had taken the
development of church education as a task. On the basis of the integration of Chinese and western culture, he
advocated sinicization, secularization and cosmopolitanization of Yenching University according to the actual situation
of China and the development trend of the world higher education. He not only successfully created a glorious age
of Yenching University, making it a leader in many Christian Universities, but also promoted the modernization of
China's higher education and the cultural exchanges between China and the West. As a result of the integration of
Chinese and Western cultures, the success of Yenching University and Leighton Stuart's educational thoughts were an
important part in the history of Chinese higher education in the Republic of China. |
