重回经典的大学通识教育

| 在这个越来越趋于实利的时代,美国大学中曾被当作大
学建立的基础、责任感和价值观教育灵魂载体的通识教育越
来越受到现实的冲击。大学在追求卓越的过程中迷失在务实教
育的泥沼中,其结果是大学迎合市场逻辑的功利化和公众之口
的平庸化,变成了职业训练基地,人才培养变得片面化、机械
化;学生自身也变得急功近利,把上大学等同于找工作,忽略了
通识教育的潜在价值。通识教育地位变得岌岌可危,实科教育
成了最大威胁,两者之间仿佛达成了某种共识。通识教育作为
一种广而博的本科教育课程,在大学的多元价值或目标体系中
具有某种不可替代性,永远不会也不应消沉。 |

| In this utilitarian era, general education, which was seen as the foundation of American universities and
as the means of responsibility and value education, is being more and more impacted by the reality. Universities have
been lost in the mire of pragmatism-oriented education, thus degrading into utilitarian and mediocre schools that meet
the market requirements and cater for the public taste, and also being reduced to job training bases with an incomplete
and mechanical talent cultivation mode. Meanwhile, students themselves are becoming more eager to success,
thinking the purpose of college education is to find a good job and ignoring the profound value of general education.
Seemingly it is all believed that general education is endangered by application-oriented education. Nevertheless, as
a kind of extensive and profound undergraduate curriculum, general education will never be replaced or die out in the
university’s pluralistic value or goal system. |
